Pauline is 5-years-old and lives with her mother and three siblings in the poverty-stricken community of Works in Jinja town. Pauline loves to play with dolls and also loves to color.
Pauline’s dad died of HIV/AIDS two years ago while on an island in Lake Victoria. Pauline’s dad was a fisherman and unfortunately contracted the disease while on the island. Pauline’s mother, Sarah, is currently living with AIDS and is sickly.
The family lives in very poor conditions. Sarah took Pauline’s brothers to the village to live because there wasn’t enough space for them all to sleep in their current mud hut. She wanted to take Pauline also but Pauline refused because she wanted to stay and attend school. Pauline wants to become a painter/artist when she grows up.
